Released by Liverpool's Viper Records label, Unearthed Merseybeat Vol.1 is the first of three volumes of unreleased Merseybeat material originally aired by Radio Merseyside's Spencer Leigh on his 'On the Beat' radio show.

​It begins with a superior alternate take of Sorrow by the Merseys, while other gems include the first known Merseybeat recording She's Got It by Johnny Guitar and Paul Murphy, a pulsating What'd I Say, the first recording from Gerry & the Pacemakers and Kingsize Taylor & the Dominoes recorded at Sam Hardie's home in 1958.
