REVIEW
The Rockits hail from Preston but have been the Caverns’ 60’s/rock ‘n’ roll resident band for a number of years and on Friday/Sunday you can see them in the Cavern Club.
In 2013, they were invited along with the Shakers to play the 'Abbey Road on the River' Beatles Festival in Louisville. Kentucky.
While in the U.S.A. the band visited 706 Union Avenue, yes, Sun Studios, to record an album, for Elvis nut/lead singer/bass guitarist Chris Grindrod, it must have been a lifetime ambition.
The Rockits recorded twenty songs in a three hour session with engineer Matt Ross Spang, a number of the songs made up the resulting album 'One Night in Memphis'.
The CD is a terrific recording with a great 'live' sound, break downs, mistakes, studio banter but more importantly some brilliant versions of 50's & 60's classics! Chris Grindrod & Justin Crowe share lead vocal duties while Chris Hunt delivers some great rock 'n' roll guitar licks.
Side 'A' features a nod to the rock'n'roll greats, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, Eddie Cochrane, Bill Haley & of course Elvis 'the King'! While on Side 'B' the Rockits 'smash' the 60's through Lazy Sunday Afternoon, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Keep On Running and more.
If you're a fan of the Rockits it's the perfect CD to buy, listen to, then go and see them play the songs live at the Cavern Club!
