POSTCARDS FROM LIVERPOOL

Beatles Moments and Memories
By Mark Brickley
Paperback
30th April 2019

Mark Brickley’s 2019 re-issued/expanded biography, Postcards From Liverpool: Beatles Moments & Memories, explores the band’s legacy through backstories, vignettes and rare interviews including “Love Me Do” drummer Andy White and Apple Records recording artist Jackie Lomax and Paul’s son James McCartney. It also features the author’s original/previously unseen, photos including Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Pete Best, Patti Boyd, Ravi Shankar and Peter Asher. Mark Brickley’s music columns and articles have appeared in the British Beatles Fan Club Magazine, Ojai Quarterly Magazine, The Coastal View News and more.
Newly updated book (April 2019), Postcards From Liverpool: Beatles Moments & Memories, explores the Beatles source sounds. Music journalist Mark Brickley deconstructs the Beatles harmonic style and traces Lennon's, McCartney's and Harrison's songwriting influences from Music Hall to Motown to Dylan. New chapters include the author's meet-up with early Beatles drummer Pete Best at the 2018 San Diego Beatles Fair and the story of how Engelbert Humperdinck's single release "Release Me (and Let Me Love Again)" kept the 1967 UK Beatles single "Penny Lane" and "Strawberry Fields Forever" from reaching the top of the British charts.

Postcards From Liverpool recounts rare backstories, including how the band struggled to record their first single, “Love Me Do” and a panorama of the band's mystic 1968 trip to Rishikesh, India. The book now features seventy photographs of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Ravi Shankar, Pattie Boyd,James McCartney, Denny Laine, Neil Young, Jeff Lynne,Nancy Shevell-McCartney, Peter Asher, Engelbert Humperdinck, Pete Best and others. Most of the photos were taken by the author in his many Beatles travels.

The Beatles footsteps are followed through London into their Liverpool childhood homes, with side trips to Paul McCartney’s Hollywood Walk of Fame Ceremony, Ringo Starr’s Grammy Museum Press Conference, the Beatles exhibit at Cleveland’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame and memories of the most recent Los Angeles Fest For Beatles Fans. Each tour stop, event and exhibition confirmed the unbreakable bond that music fans still have with the famed Liverpool quartet.

Postcards From Liverpool includes six Beatles focused interviews including James McCartney (Paul's son), Spirit's lead singer-songwriter Jay Ferguson, Apple Records recording artist Jackie Lomax, Rock Hall Associate Curator Meredith Rutledge-Borger and 60's British songwriter Mitch Murray ( song: "How Do You Do It?"). The book's postscripts include a fun Merseybeat music quiz, post Beatles album review, a primer on how to collect vintage vinyl, an author's interview and much more. Postcards From Liverpool was designed and formatted in Brisbane, Australia and is published by Britpop Books.
