JAMES MCCARTNEY LIVE!
THE OLD QUEEN'S HEAD PUB, ISLINGTON

REVIEW

James McCartney returned to the U.K. after a near 50 date tour of the U.S. playing intimate venues to promote his new album 'Me'.

His previous London date was at the Ambassadors Theatre with Ronnie Wood which included a suprise appearance by his father Sir Paul McCartney.

The Old Queens Head pub is located on the main Essex Road in Islington (opposite the Kings Head pub) and features live music in an upstairs room above the pub.

The size of this venue would guarantee it would be another intimate gig from James.

Tonight support came from Sarah Berresford appearing under her stage name of 'Oh Sister'. Sarah played a short set of songs and the audience obviously here for James gave here a fantastic reception.

James McCartney arrived on stage around 9,30pm to a rousing welcome from the now healthy crowd of around 150 fans including supportive sisters Stella & Mary McCartney.

I'd seen James before a couple of times in Manchester & also at his Cavern Club appearance in Liverpool but clearly his solo jaunt around the U.S. has helped him build his onstage confidence and he now seems more at ease facing a live audience even cracking a couple of jokes:-)

His impressive new album 'Me' is given an extensive airing as he moves between some brilliant acoustic guitar playing & keyboards.

Butterfly, You and Me Individually, Life's a Pill, Snow, Mexico, are all highlights as well as old favourites Glisten, Angel & the Neil Young cover Old Man.

After around 45 minutes James returned to perform three encores the excellent Thinking About Rock & Roll, his latest single Strong As You and New York Times from the EP Collection.

Afterwards James stays around to sign copies of 'Me' and pose for photographs, enjoying another gig in an intimate setting.
