PART ONE : THE BEATLES STORY - OPENS IT'S DOORS
ALBERT DOCK, LIVERPOOL
Thursday, 3rd May 1990
The following article is taken from a fanzine I used to publish called 'Beatles'.In the previous issue of 'Beatles' magazine we gave an exclusive insight into the new Beatles development 'The Beatles Story' located in Liverpool's renovated Albert Dock.

As they say, seeing is believing, so Beatle Phil & I went along on Thursday, 3rd May to see for ourselves, does the Beatles Story live up to expectations?

The first thing that hits you about the Beatles Story is , where is it?

If you arrive by car and park on the King's Dock, you'll have no problem finding the entrance, but if like us you're on foot, the Beatles Story isn't the easiest of places to locate, although once you've found it, you wonder what all the panic was about!

The Beatles Story looks impressive and as the walk down the stairs you feel as though you're about to embark on a magical experience.

The first two rooms Liverpool Scene & Hamburg are equipped with television sets, each in turn telling the story of the Beatles formative years, there's also Neon lights and a facade of the legendary Star Club, Hamburg.

The Merseybeat offices are faithfully re-created but as with most of this complex there's little in the way of memorabilia to give the display a genuine feel.

The highlight of the Beatles Story has to be the walk through Mathew Street, The Cavern Club, Beatlemania, Sgt Pepper years and an emotional tribute to John Lennon.

The admission price of of £3 is very reasonable and there's plenty of souvenirs to browse through and buy, although one suggestion would be to have small cafe (like Beatle City) where Beatles fans could have a chat over a cuppa or just rest their weary feet before embarking on their journey home.

The Beatles Story is a fine exhibition and it deserves to be a success, pleased support it and enable it to be become a permanent tribute to the Beatles in Liverpool.
