In 2005, an updated edition of the first two volumes including details of new venues was published by the Bluecoat Press in Liverpool
The books contain details of venues played by the band from the Quarrymen to the Beatles within Liverpool, surrounding areas in Merseyside & North Wales. a popular destination for Merseybeat bands to play their music.
The layout of the book is really helpful if you choose to visit any of the venues as they are laid out in alphabetical order but with a full index and a wonderful description by Ray of the story behind the Beatles appearances and what remains or has changed since they played there.
Ray's research is meticulous and where possible he has included a photograph of the venue, ticket stub, poster, photograph of the band and also a present day (2001/2003/2005) photograph of the venue. Unfortunately as time goes by a vast number have either changed use or been demolished to leave an empty space where history had been made all those years ago. This of course adds to the significance of these books for historical reference.
Although the first two books are now hard to find , There Are Places, The Beatles Early Venues is still available through Amazon and other outlets.
Purchase and enjoy....
