McGear was recorded with the help of Paul McCartney & Wings at Strawberry Studios in Stockport, except for the hit single, Leave It, recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London. 

The album was originally released 25th September 1974.

The original album is complemented by a second CD containing unreleased tracks and alternate versions of a number of album tracks.

The DVD features two Mike McCartney interviews recorded at LIPA & The Everyman Theatre, Liverpool plus a short promotional film from 1974.
